“No way! Absolutely not. The last thing I need is my little sister messing around when-“
“Ron, you know that’s not fair, I’m not little anymore.” Ginny retorted.
“Well you’re younger than us.” Ron replied stubbornly.
“Soon I’ll be of age and will be able to use magic outside of school! I hardly consider that little.” Ginny’s ears were beginning to turn red, just like her brothers, which I found quite amusing.
Harry came around the corner and saw the siblings arguing. Ginny was so preoccupied with her battle with Ron that she didn’t even notice him. He tilted his head to the side, pointing to the stairs. I nodded and we went down together.
“I hope they stop soon; they’re probably worrying Mrs. Weasley.” I whispered as we descended the never ending staircases.
“Oh they’ll get over it eventually. But they are wasting time that we could be looking for…” Harry trailed off as we entered the kitchen.
“What are you looking for?” Mrs. Weasley asked.
“Umm…” I looked at Harry for help.
“The proper flowers to put on Fred’s grave…” Harry said with a weak smile.
“Oh…well thank you, Harry.” Mrs. Weasley replied.
“Actually, Hermione, Ginny, Ron, and I were planning on going out and looking for them for a bit. Would you mind?”
“No not at all.” Mrs. Weasley said with a kind of blank smile and continued washing the dishes.
“Accio rucksack.” I said under my breath and my sack came flying down the stairs, landing in my hands. It was the same one that I used when we were searching for horcruxes, still unpacked. “That’ll save me a trip up those stairs.” I said with a smile.
“Um, Hermione, aren’t you forgetting something?”
I sighed, realizing we would have to go back anyway to fetch Ginny and Ron. Luckily, though, they came down the stairs, each shouldering a sack and giving each other fake smiles. We all waved to Mrs. Weasley and Ron and Ginny waited until we stepped out the door to continue their argument.
“You think you’re going to be helpful during our search?” Ron said sarcastically.
“Actually, yes. I do. You know my hexes are better than anyone else’s.” Ginny said with a prideful air about her. They continued on like this for another good five minutes until Harry couldn’t take it anymore.
“Will you stop bashing on each other? Give it a rest! Ron, that’s my girlfriend you’re talking about, and Ginny, that’s my best friend. Let’s focus on George now.”
“Right,” I said before Ron could interject, “If you were George, where would you go?”
“Hogwarts?” Harry guessed.
“It might make sense…he might want to revisit where his brother was before he died.” Ginny agreed.
“Or the Gryffindor Common Room, where they’ve created most of their inventions.” Ron added.
“Right, then let’s Apparate right outside of the grounds.” I concluded. “Harry, if you will.”
We all grabbed each other’s arms and SNAP we were outside the gates, or what was left of the gates, of the school.
“This place looks…cheerful.” said Ron. I took his hand. It was nice and warm, giving me instant comfort.
“Now that I see it I don’t think Fred would be here.” I said, my voice coming off a higher pitch than usual. “Let’s go back…”
“It-it’ll be all right, Hermione.” Ron said in a sort of nervous voice, giving the top of my head a kiss. I smiled weakly up at him, but I knew my eyes were sparkling. It’s funny how when he kissed me, it still gave my heart a thrill.
Harry took Ginny’s hand as well and we walked through the gates until we reached the front door. It was unlocked, so Ginny pulled it open with her free hand. As soon as we entered, Professor Flitwick passed by.
He noticed us then, and said, “Oh good gracious! I wasn’t expecting people to help clean up right now, but if you’re up for the task, let’s start straightaway! If you’ll follow me to the Astronomy Tower- there’s quite a bit of damage that needs repairing.”
“We’re sorry sir, but we’re not here to help rebuild just yet.” Harry started.
“You see, my brother, Fr-Fred, he er-“ Ron didn’t look like he was willing to admit that his brother had died at the moment so I covered for him.
“Fred fought fiercely at the final battle and unfortunately, passed on.” I said, rushing to spit out the words that were so hard to express. Ron smiled at me gratefully and I squeezed his hand for reassurance.
“You know George. Well he’s run away and we don’t know if he’s here or not.” Ron finished.
“I’m sorry, I wish I could help, but I haven’t seen him.” Professor Flitwick said gravely.
“That’s all right, Professor. Thanks anyways. We just hope he’s safe.” Ginny said as we turned back to the doors.
“Ginny! That’s it! To see if he’s safe! Oh why didn’t I think of it before? So stupid of me…” Harry said, rummaging around in his rucksack.
“Harry…what’s wrong?” Ginny asked. “What’s he doing?” She whispered to me.
I was shaking my head when Harry finally found what he was looking for: The Marauder’s Map.
“When we were gone on our search, Ginny, every day I would check the map to see if you…were safe.” Harry said, looking sort of embarrassed at the end. “That’s what made me think of the map. We can see here if George is at Hogwarts, or maybe even on his way to Hogsmeade.”
“That’s brilliant, Harry!” Ginny said giving him an enthusiastic kiss on the cheek, leaving Harry looking rather flustered.
